2017 Fall Winter Fashion Forecast
It's only the end of spring but it's never too early to do a fun forecast on fall and winter fashion trends for 2017. A lot of designers have started releasing their pre-fall collections for 2017 which means we've put together a super handy buying guide on some key pieces you need to pick up to refine your own style.
We've been seeing the hottest name in streetwear for a couple years now but it's still going strong. Vetements is setting the tone for so many streetwear aesthetics. Large vintage graphics, huge typography on sleeves, oversized sweatshirts and 90's normcore style jeans are going to be still a thing.
Item to buy: at least 1 oversized hoodie with a graphic
Silver has been quietly trying to overtake the rose gold trend. Designers like Alexander Wang have gone back to his trusty silver hardware in most of his designs leaving the rose gold and gold tones for his classic collections instead. Celebrities have been wearing silver from head-to-toe for their awards shows. With the embracement of all the futuristic technology vibes, we welcome silver back into our fall and winter wardrobes for 2017. It's less fussy and a little more edgy but still every bit as elegant.
Item to buy: Swap your LBD for a L.ittle S.ilver D.ress
or you know, flatforms. If you're getting flashbacks to the 70's or the 90's Spice Girls era, you are not alone. We've been seeing the resurgence of statement shoes and platform anything is going to take you there. With the new pant silhouettes ranging from extreme flares (a.k.a bellbottoms) or wide leg trousers, there is a need for a shoe to match.
Item to buy: A platform with some color or decoration so it looks intentional peeking out from under those wide flares
Decorative and over-the-top luxury. The more intense the rhinestones, embroidery, studs, grommets, florals the better. It's hard to justify investing in a such trendy piece that might not have lasting power so we say opt for just one small item in your wardrobe to get this update and not apply it to every single piece.
Item to buy: An embellished handbag so it can be worn to luxe up any boring outfit
After a couple years (or like a decade) of minimalistic fashion of perfectly tailored sleek looks we've arrived at the idea that maybe we should just destroy all our clothes to add some interesting elements. With designers likes Ben Taverniti leading the way with ideas like "to create something new you must first destroy", we are embracing the idea of making your clothes your own.
Item to buy: Nothing. Take a pair of scissors and start crafting tears into your jeans, leggings or tee.
6. WESTERN MEETS BOHO
Cowboy style comes and goes every so often. We've been seeing B-Low the Bri Bri belt for a few seasons, so it's anticipated that the western vibe will make it's way back to the runways and streets. With more attention to feminine touches like florals, softer fabrics and lighter colors this trend has some boho elements so it will be easy to adopt.
Item to buy: Modernized boho cowboy boots obviously
7. The 70's
We always have a soft spot for the 70's especially for fall winter fashion. The nostalgia and the general vibe of fearless experiments with clothes seems to always attract designers. With 70's lovers like Chloé leading the way with matching twin set suits and double-rim sunglasses, we are excited to ditch our messy top-knots and trade it for sleek straight hair or lovely flawless curls.
Item(s) to buy: cropped flares, hair straightener & double rim sunglasses
The future is now (& female). With it being 2017 and Elon Musk sending rockets to space and trying to populate Mars, we can't help but fantasize about what we would wear on our out-of-world travels. Chanel took to this trend and created some astronaut-friendly haute couture for us all to try. We believe that puffer jackets will be a staple for fall winter fashion in 2017.
Item to buy: A silver puffer and sun shields
9. LUXE LAZY
Not to be confused with athleisure where it looks like you could potentially be coming from or going to yoga. Luxe Lazy holds no fitness ideals and simply is upfront. There is no way you're working out in a velour tracksuit after all. Paris Hilton circa 2001 anyone?
Item to buy: Dig out your old Juicy Couture but if you donated to Goodwill then pick up a sweet new style of it!
10. VAMPIRE CHIC
Elaborate Victorian collars and wide corset belts will truly be the key to looking like a stylish, rich vampire of days past. We love this gothic trend and are excited to see corseted belts cinched over simple tanks and tees for a more realistic vibe.
Item to buy: wide corset belt
